COVID-19 Updates – As of early 2021

The newly commissioned 14 and 12″ Meade LX200 scopes at the WMCC observatory

Club Meetings

Due to state restrictions on indoor meetings, we’re now holding club meetings via Zoom; if you would like to join a meeting, please let the club secretary know at lhaacsec@gmail.com. We also have an active Discord server where club members communicate about ongoing projects and observing (see here to join)

Star Parties and Talks

White Memorial is still closed for indoor events, so for the time being we have split our events into online talks and outdoors observing-only events. To comply with CT state guidelines outdoor Star Parties are limited to 100 people maximum (or less, if guidelines change). We also require everyone attending bring and wear a mask or cloth facial covering that covers your face and nose. Please maintain social distancing when next to other people at the event or when inside the observatory (we limit the number of people inside to no more than 4 at a time, including members operating the telescopes). Please be aware that observing-only events are canceled if the weather is not cooperating, and we won’t send out cancellation notices. See the calendar for dates and times.

Starting in December, 2020 we resumed our popular talks via Zoom webinar in conjunction (pun intended) with White Memorial. For the first half of 2021 the talks will be on the first Friday at 7:00 Eastern time. Like all our events, the talks are free, but you need to register – visit https://whitememorialcc.org/calendar/
Scroll down till you see “Virtual Star Party” and click to register. If you can’t attend when the talk is being given, White Memorial is recording the talks and posting them on their Facebook page. The club will post a link to the talks on our FB page as well.

Please stay tuned to our site and Facebook page for updates.
